Dorothea Nicolai works as a costume designer for opera and dance. She was trained at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg as a cutter specializing in period patterns. She has been a member of the ICOM Costume Committee since 2005, and a board member since 2013, and she has taught costume history at Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Shoes have always been her passion, also for herself and her own collection of more than 100 pairs. The Nicolai Shoes collections aim to fill a need for shoes you cannot find elsewhere – shoes with elegance and humour that recall the spirit of the twenties but with a contemporary twist.
